Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a part of a top-ranked educational institution? That’s exactly what S P Jain School of Global Management is. With campuses in Dubai, Singapore, Mumbai and Sydney, S P Jain School of Global Management is one of the world’s top business schools with a mission to create capable business leaders for the 21st century global workplace.

Today, Bayt.com is interviewing Professor Christopher Abraham, Sr. Vice President and Head of the Dubai campus at S P Jain School of Global Management. With 28 years of professional experience in management consulting, strategic marketing, executive development and management education, Professor Abraham is now responsible for recruitment at S P Jain School of Global Management Dubai campus. In addition to being a PhD scholar in Positive Psychology and a Certified Design Thinker from IDEO/Stanford University, Professor Abraham holds three postgraduate qualifications in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, and Labor and Administrative Law.

Let’s find out what it takes to be hired in an international institution, according to Professor Abraham.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m an explorer, discoverer, student, and seeker. I’m constantly exploring new territories and learning new things.

2. What’s the best part about working at SP Jain?

I have the privilege of being part of an institution with extremely humble beginnings right from the start. Through our vision and collective efforts, we have been able to become, in less than a decade, one of the top 20 business schools in the world (as stated in the Forbes Best Business Schools Rankings 2013). Our core values of innovation and professionalism are exuded in our corporate culture. We believe in encouraging innovation, enthusiasm and excitement, and constantly try to be ahead of the pack. Our employees are a team of like-minded individuals who strive for transparency, trust and open communication which includes not only sharing success, but also mistakes and failures.

3. What are the top 3 things you look for in candidates when making a hiring decision at SP Jain?

We look for individuals who adhere to our core values of innovation and professionalism, have a great deal of energy, and never say “die.” We hire people who are dreamers and not afraid to follow through with their ideas.

4. Any advice for employers who want to retain their top performing talent?

We’re currently in the age of conscious capitalism, wherein business leaders are made to re-think about why their organization exists and become aware of their standing in a global interdependent marketplace. To retain top talent, I would tell employers to follow the principle of being TACTILE – which stands for transparency, authenticity, compassion, trust, integrity, love and engagement. Being tactile should be accompanied by “servant leadership.” The servant leader is one who has a natural urge to serve first and foremost before aspiring to lead.

5. What is the most common mistake candidates make in a CV?

One of the most common mistakes candidates make in a CV isn’t grammar or style – it’s a lack of authenticity. We often find candidates over-committing and exaggerating far beyond the true picture of what they have to offer. I highly encourage job seekers to always be honest with their history and work experience – which includes both the good and the bad!

6. Can you tell us about your experience with Bayt.com?

I find Bayt.com to be a very cost-effective and efficient method to recruit talent. We have tried other more traditional ways of hiring, even similar job sites, but Bayt.com is always our first choice.
