The statue:
It is a block statue of king Senusert III. He was one of the important kings of the 12th Dynasty. He is the origin of the idea of digging a canal to connect the two seas. He was a great warrior and led many campaigns. The statue was discovered near the mortuary temple of king Mentohotep at Deir El Bahari. It is made out of granite. The king is most probably represented in a standing position in the attitude of preying. He is wearing the nms head dress with the two rounds cobra. He is wearing a starched kilt decorated with a central tab ending with two stretched cobras. There are representations similar to the sun ray on the kilt and collected on one side. The facial features are represented with realism. The eyes are protruding, there are wrinkles around the eyes and mouth and the gap under the lower lip. These features were inherited by his son Amenemhat III. The king is represented wearing an amulet on his chest that has the shape of the placenta but probably it is a shape of the heart or ib amulet.
