The wooden statue of Senusert I

<!--<!--

Background:

There are two wooden statues for king Senusert I. Most probably they were used in festival and ceremonies held in his funerary temple. One of these statues is wearing the white crown of Egypt HDt and the other is wearing the red crown of Egypt dSrt. They were found inside the enclosure wall of thee tomb chamber of im Htp whose tomb was near the mortuary temple of king Senusert I. The statue exhibited in the Egyptian Museum is the one wearing the white crown.

The statue:

It is made out of painted cedar wood consisting of a number of parts since it is hard to carve a statue from one piece of wood because wood cracks. The crown and the kilt are covered with painted plaster. They are painted white. The rest of the body is brown. It is in standing position with the right leg stepping forward. The facial features are well represented. The eyes are painted. The details of the neck, the chest, the muscles and the shoulders are well represented. He is represented holding the HkA scepter which is a sign of authority. The other hand has a whole in it which means that it was carrying something may be the xrp scepter but now it is missing. The skill of the artist is reflected in the absence of a back pillar and the filling of the gaps. The other statue is almost the same except that it is wearing the red crown and exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum
