Food production on land has increased about 15 times in the past 200 years but fish population of the oceans has declined and ocean fish catch is now not sustainable and cannot be increased unless action is taken to increase ocean fish population. No action seems to be taken to achieve this.Fertilizers and irrigation are the key factors behind the manifold increase in agriculture output. Similar steps have to be taken in oceans to build up fish stocks. We have to farm the oceans, just as we farm land.
Muhammod Mohsin (Pakistan):
In the early civilization human beings used to eat animals including fish by hunting and fruits from the trees. In course of human civilization they used to grow out food grains and domesticated animals. As the human beings went on increasing steadily they invented and adopted agricultural technologies to meet up increased populations food demand. That's why food grains production increased 15 times over the passed 200 years. Nevertheless, still now the world is not free from hunger. Over 200 years little attention has been given on animal and fish production because of their availability in the wild. As the global population exceeds 7 billion the arable lands seem not enough to produce and meet up required food demands. So, we have to look for the vast sea to meet up the challenge of food both proteins and carbohydrates.
