The Middle East is not generally considered one of the world’s powerhouse aquaculture regions. But in this area traditionally known for oil, aquaculture is poised to expand significantly in the coming years, thanks to new investments from governments, companies and financiers. The emerging sector faces some challenges and growing pains but has the ability to become a new force in the global aquaculture industry.
New multi-million-dollar projects are underway in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Turkey, Cyprus and throughout other parts of the Middle East, and many of these countries have set aggressive goals for aquaculture production growth over the next five years.
