Examination is a way to assess a student.It has many advantages
1. Teacher gets an idea whether student has understood the subject or no
2. Student if gets through/gets good marks,gets confidence
3. Examination helps teacher in finding out who is a good student with good knowledge
Disadvantages-
1. May create stress
It depends on a student how he takes it.Every moment in life can teach us & can create stress.Exam is a part of the school/college life.Study well & one will not have much stress.Some amount of stress is acceptable.But it should not affect performance
Exams should be conducted to produce good doctors,engineers,CA,etc who will help the nation to progress

Advantages:
1.It helps one to know the level of understanding of a subject of a student.
2.It helps recruiters of the companies to assess the standards of the applicants.
Disadvantages:
1.There would be a lot of stress on the students to pass the examinations.
2.This results in a lot of students falling prey to many mental disorders.
3.Sometimes it results in students commiting suicides as some of the students are sensitive.
But I personally feel that examinations are a compulsory and there is no way to avoid exams

first of all you should be clear whether you have to include both advantages or disadvantages:-
you should know that essay can contain both advantages and disadvantages.but if u are writing a debate then it should either favour the topic or discard the idea of topic.so as you are writing an essay you should follow some simple staeps to write good essay:

1.first paragraph should deal with the introduction of your topic such as what exam is,what does the word exam exactly means and if there is any history associated with it as when did this system start etc.

2.the secon paragraph should deal with the explanation of the subject as what really is the idea of exam is how is it conducted,what does it judge and what is the relevance of exams in modern era.you may include quotes of some famius persons that would make ur essay appealing.

3.the third para should deal with advantages of exam:
a)it forces student to study otherwisw studeent would have completely ignored the subject.
b)it provides a means to jusdge the talent of student
c)it creates a sense of competition
d)it is important to test the eligibility of students
4.then you should deal with disadvantages:
a)it creates lot of burden on students
b)it is a basis of suicidal attempts
c)it may lead to a student going in depression
d)only talent is important not bookish knowledge

then you must make a good conclusion and suggest for steps to be taken or some changes to be made in the system for better results

Examinations are no doubt very much necessary after the long learning process of the whole academic session.It not tests the knowledge of the student,but the student himself gets to capture his weak points.Moreover,it's human nature that we grasp and perform better under pressure.Thus,the pressure of examination,when controlled,can buck you up to discover your own capabilities and grow in terms of knowledge.
