MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

BETWEEN

Members of COMSATS' INTERNATIONAL THEMATIC RESEARCH GROUP ON "Agriculture, Food Security and Biotechnology"

AND

COMMISSION ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE SOUTH, PAKISTAN

ON SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION IN Agriculture, Food Security and Biotechnology

PREAMBLE:

Agreeing with the decision of COMSATS Coordinating Council to establish International Thematic Research Groups;

THIS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (hereinafter referred to as "MoU") is made on 10th of June 2015

Between

the International Thematic RESEARCH Group members of "Agriculture, Food Security and Biotechnology" (hereinafter referred to as "ITRGAFB")

        i.            National Research Centre (NRC), Egypt     (Lead Centre)

      ii.            Industrial technology Institutte (ITI), Sri Lanka

ARTICLE 1

PURPOSE OF THE MoU

The purpose of this MoU is to establish COMSATS' International Thematic Research Group to promote research and development in the field of "Agriculture, Food Security and Biotechnology", with a view to develop cooperation and build a group of researchers from developing countries to conduct research and share their expertise and laboratory resources.

ARTICLE 2

Establishment and membership

The parties agree to:

        i.            Establish "International Thematic Research Group on Agriculture, Food Security and Biotechnology";

      ii.            The Membership will be open to all relevant institutions in developing countries.

ARTICLE 4

MECHANISM OF COLLABORATION

The following mechanism will be employed to achieve the objectives of this MoU:

a)     NRC will be the Lead Centre and Prof. Wafaa Haggag, Head of the Agricultural and Biological Research Division of the NRC, Egypt, will play the role of an international team leader;

b)           COMSATS Headquarters will extend financial support for the international travel of scientists/researchers in the following events in accordance with availability of funds:

• International Thematic Research Group meetings
• Exchange of researchers/scientists among the Lead Centre and Collaborating Institutions of the International Thematic Research Group for conducting joint research;

c)     The local hospitality will be provided by the host institution in the event of joint research and group meetings;

d)    COMSATS Headquarters, NRC and other collaborating Institutions, jointly, shall approach the International Donors Agencies as well as the Governments of the collaborating countries for the funding of research project.

e)     The team members would conduct research as per the instructions of the team leader as part of their assignments in their home institutions. The results will be reported to the team leader for compilation of study reports.

تعاون مع ومفوضية العلوم والتكنلوجيا من أجل التنمية المستدامة في الجنوب (COMSATS)

لتفعيل هذا التعاون  تم حضور المؤتمر العالمي الثاني في الزراعة والأمن الغذائي والتقانة الحيوية برعاية وزارة التعليم العالى والبحث العلمى والابتكار   بالتعاون مع مركز البحوث والاستشارات الصناعية وكلية الزراعة بجامعة الخرطوم ومفوضية العلوم والتكنلوجيا من أجل التنمية المستدامة في الجنوب (COMSATS) والمنظمة الإسلامية للتعليم والعلوم والثقافة   (ISESCO)   – يومى 17 و18 أكتوبر 2016 فى العاصمة السودانية الخرطوم بمشاركة العديد من الباحثين والمهتمين والخبراء من مصر والسنغال    وسلطنة عمان والصين والأردن بقاعة المؤتمرات بوزارة التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي.
