(Cairo, 14 December 2014) On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December 2014, the first steering committee meeting for the project “jobs and skills for PwDs with a focus on ICT-based solutions” was held at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt.

Committee members from the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration, the National Council for Disability Affairs, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and the Egyptian Democratic Labour Congress discussed the project based on their respective expertise, noting the importance of empowering persons with disabilities, their employability and integration in the labor market.

In synchronization with this year’s theme “sustainable development: the promise of technology”, this project aims at using innovation, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions to promote labor market inclusion of persons with disabilities. It also targets youth, women, trainers and institutions with a specific focus on the ICT and the tourism sectors.

This project is financed by the UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) fund and implemented in 6 governorates: Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, El Minya, Red Sea and Port Said, during the period of September 2014 to March 2016 by three partners: UNDP, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and the Egypt-ICT Trust Fund.
