Strategic study on the gyptian Marble and

Granite Sector 

The aim of the “Strategic study on the Egyptian Marble and

Granite Sector” was that of identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the dimension stone sector and its positioning in the global market in order to propose a sector strategy and an action plan. The mission was carried out by five experts, three international and two locals during the period January – June 2005.  

After a kick off meeting in Cairo on January 2nd, 2005, the project has been carried out in various phases both in Egypt and Europe. In the beginning the experts implemented the action in Cairo and subsequently different missions were performed to the marble sites in Egypt, to visit the quarries and the processing industries. The data collection for the assessment of the present situation of the sector in Egypt and the benchmarking exercise has involved both the local and the international experts. The final part of the project, consisting in the redaction of the strategies report, has been carried out mainly in Europe. 

This study was prepared and commissioned by the team during my participation in the membership of the quarry division of the Federation of Egyptian Industries in 2005
