Careful planning contributes a lot to a student's success in school. Without careful planning, a goal is remotely possible to attain. A friend who graduated with honors and used to head a department in a telecommunications company, succeeded because he knew beforehand what he wanted to do and did a good deal of careful planning even before he entered college. He planned everything from his extracurricular activities to the tiniest detail about his studies. He did not allow anything to mess with his goals. Since planning begins with an objective, this friend of mine had a clear objective; to graduate with honors and find a job right away. Goals are very effective driving mechanisms. They motivate people to action. They push individuals to move forward.
Patience and perseverance
Patience and perseverance are a must if one wants to excel in school. It is definite that when an individual is in school, he gets tons of tough workloads that can be very discouraging. Patience and perseverance keep people going. Without these virtues, one might give up even after just one try. What happens to a person when he gives up? When a person gives up, he misses the opportunities for growth and advancement. He spoils his chance of witnessing the unfolding of good results. He gives up the chance of seeing his dreams come true. Rough roads may be very hard to travel on, but they can be the most dependable way to a destination.

Congeniality may not sound like a prime ingredient when cooking success in school, but it is. People always prefer the friendly and the well-disposed over the aloof and hostile. When a person is known to be friendly and agreeable, people flock to his side. A vast circle of friends can be a lot of things to a student: family, inspiration, support group, tutors, advisers, campaigners, financiers, morale boosters, etc. With friends around, student life can be so much easier and more enjoyable. Besides, these friends are future contacts and will be there when a student is ready to face the real world of work and networks.
Optimism
Optimism is a big factor towards success in any endeavor. In school, it is a powerful force that makes things happen. Positivity is an attitude. It is believing that things are going to be good despite the seemingly hopeless situation. It is constantly working for the best and expecting the best but preparing for the worst. When taking an exam for example, a student has to study extensively and aim for an impressive score. However, in case things do not turn out as expected, the positive will not be discouraged. He continues giving his best. He continues to work hard to achieve his goal. The student should believe that he can succeed. As the cosmic law on gender states, "Two things produce a third.” Thought forms created in the sub-conscious will manifest in physical form at some future time.

Creativity is probably the most important of the keys to success in school. Most people find it difficult to give an exact definition to the word creativity but they recognize creativity when they see it. According to Rue and Bryars, professors in management and authors of management books, “Creativity is the thinking process involved in producing an idea or concept that is new, original, useful, or satisfying to its creator or someone else." Webster’s dictionary defines creativity as an ability to bring something into being. Why do some students get the most out of their studies? It is because they are creative. They do not just stare at their notes or listen to their teachers. They make something out of what they learn. Why do honors students excel? It is because they are creative. They form an effective and efficient schedule. They see to it that they have enough time to study and maintain focus despite life’s many distractions. How do campus figures become popular? They put creativity in their lives. They do not fear distinction or being apart from the rest. How do student leaders get so much admiration and trust? They are creative in their association with others. They follow rules but know how to bend appropriately as necessary. They are vocal when required to and know the time to be silent. They are open to criticisms. They welcome inputs and are flexible.
All of us want success in school but success in school is not very easy to achieve. The school is a ferocious battlefield. We have to be armed when going to the battle. We need these keys to win it!
