CAIRO, Egypt - The Embassy of Switzerland is taking part in the annual Fête de la Francophonie celebrations in Egypt between March 14 and 29, bringing to the country two special Swiss musical performances and a film screening. 

Switzerland’s program for the festival will include two concerts by Swiss singer and musician Soraya Ksontini, who will be performing at the Cairo Jazz Club on March 17 at 10 p.m. and at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on March 19 at 6 p.m. The award-winning Swiss film, “La Petite Chambre,” directed by Stéphanie Chuat and Véronique Reymond, will also be showing at the French Institute in Cairo on March 22 at 7 p.m.

“As a francophone country, we are delighted to take part in these events in Egypt, celebrating the French language and Francophone culture.  The Fête de la Francophonie celebrations are an opportunity for us to enrich our cultural exchange with Egypt, a crucial element of the Swiss Embassy’s work in the country,” says Markus Leitner, Ambassador of Switzerland to Egypt

The International Francophonie day is celebrated on March 20th every year by 80 member states and governments which include among them 220 million French speakers. In Egypt, the 2015 celebrations around the day will last for 2 weeks and will comprise events such as film screenings, musical concerts, and dance and theatre performances among other events hosted by member states.
