Isis mother of Thutmosis III
<!--<!--
Isis was the mother of Thutmosis III she was an unroyal wife of king Thutmosis II. Thutmosis III felt that she didn’t have her rights during the life of his father. For that reason after her death he made this statue for her as a way of honoring her. Also he represented her in a form of a tree inside his tomb at Luxor. Here he represented her as a royal wife or royal queen.
You can talk in brief about Thutmosis III
Why did Thutmosis III represent his mother in the form of a tree?
For reading:
Ancient Egyptian people thought that the souls of the dead alighted on trees. Images show female tree spirits, who were thought of as the sky goddess Nut or Hathor, giving water and handing fruit to the soul of the deceased who was in bird form. The tree expecially the date palm and sycamore, was a tree of life. So Thutmosis III in honor of his mother he represented her in the form of the tree. (pls look page.3)
Here, she is represented sitting on the throne of Egypt and holding the floral scepter in her left hand which is a sign of royalty for royal women. She is represented wearing a tripartite hair wig (a wig with long equally sized tresses) upon this wig rests a diadem with 2 frontal uraei one of them wearing the white crown of Upper Egypt and the other wearing the red crown of Lower Egypt. It could be a sign of royalty. She is represented wearing a long narrow tight dress. We can notice also the bracelets and the collar around her neck which once covered in gold leaf, such as the diadem. The sculptor was skillful enough in representing this statue as the facial features and modeling of the figures are well balanced.
Uraei plural – uraeus singular = (the royal cobra). The Greek word uriaos may have originated in the Egyptian world meaning (she who rears up). The uraeus was the serpent which the king wore on a diadem or on his crown. It was the protector of the pharaoh and was supposed to spit fire at his enemies from its place on his forehead.
Remember:
The crowns worn by the pharaoh:
The white crown (HDt) of Upper Egypt
The red crown (dSrt) of Lower Egypt
These two crowns were thought to embody the protective goddesses of royalty, the Upper Egyptian Nekhbet and the Lower Egyptian Wadjet.
This statue is made out of black granite. It was found in the cachette of Karnak by Legrain in 1904. We can notice her that the throne is half back pillar not long one. The two jambs of the throne bear hieroglyphic inscriptions which can be read as follows:
The right jamb of the throne:
Nfr nTr nb tAwy mn xpr ra mry imn nb ist tAwy
The good god the lord of the two lands the existence of form of god Re beloved of god Amen-Re lord of the thrones of the two lands
