Akhenaton presenting an offering table

Now we are standing in front of a statue of King Akhenaton bearing an offering table. This statue belongs to King Amenhotep IV the son and successor of king Amenhotep III and Queen Ti he was one of the rulers of the 18th dynasty. This statue is made out of limestone that is painted it was brought from Tura Maasara and el Mokatam hills. It was discovered in a house of tell El Amarna.

It represents him while standing holding an offering table for god Aton very similar to the statue of Amenemhat III as the Nile god Hapi from the 12th dynasty. The offering table is covered with representations of food and lotus flowers. The king is shown here wearing a blue crown Khepresh crown also called the war helmet blue crown. Here this crown is made of a separate piece of stone which was an invention during Amarna period, it is shown with spots and it is a ceremonial crown. He is wearing short pleated kilt with a central tab. He is wearing sandals which were rarely used during the Old Kingdom from the New kingdom they became more usual as a statue symbol
