The headline today is from The Guardian "Fists, bombs and blood". The internet search engine Google has launched a new service. It allows people to put their home videos on the web for others to view and download. This is known as user-generated content. People can download for free some interesting films, but there are also some violent videos that people have been putting up on the web. These are called video nasties because of their violent nature. One film called 'Black Dudes Fighting' shows two men fighting each other violently. Another film 'Girls Fighting' is described as a cat fight. It shows two women punching and kicking each other. There has been a debate for some time about whether material on the web should be censored. People who support no censorship on the internet think it's fine to use user-generated content even if it's violent, as long as the people involved have given their permission. A spokesman for Google says 'Google Video only launched last week and is still in a trial period'. Some commentators have said that the image Google wants to present is that it is fully democratic, a fully open platform. Other commentators have said that because the service is new, it's bound to experience some teething troubles. Should there be censorship on the internet?
