Inscribed Hess Vase
Date: 3rd Intermediate Period, Dyn 21, Reign of Psusennes I, ca. 1040-992 B.C.

This silver vase has a wide rim and it does not have a spout. This type of vessel is referred to as heset in ancient Egyptian, and would have been used in temple rituals. There are three lines of inscription on the body of the vessel, which include the king’s names and titles. The inscriptions read (from left to right):
“Son of Ra, Lord of the Crowns, Psusennes Beloved of Amun. King of Upper and Lower Egypt, Lord of the Two Lands, Aakhepera Setepenamun (Great are the Manifestations of Ra. Chosen of Amun).” (Transliteration is below).
The third register on the right reads: “Osiris, Lord of Good Abydos.” This latter inscription was probably an invocation to Osiris, god of the afterlife.

إناء الفضي له حافة واسعة، وليس له صنبور، وهذا النوع من الآنية يشار إليه باللغة المصرية القديمة بكلمة حست>>*، وكان يستخدم في الطقوس في المعابد، وقد نقشت على هذا الإناء ثلاث سطور تشمل أسماء الملك وألقابه وتقرأ من اليسار إلى اليمين على النحو التالي:
<<ابن رع، سيد التيجان، بسوسنس محبوب آمون، ملك مصر والسفلى، سيد الأرضين، آخبررع ستبنآمن (العظيم المتجلي من رع، المختار من آمون)>> (الأداء الصوتي أدناه).
وآخر النقوش في جهة اليمين تقرأ: <<*يا أوزير يا رب أبيدوس الطيبة>>، وهي جملة بمثابة ابتهال لأوزير سيد العالم الآخر.
