Background:
Ty was a high official during the 5th dynasty. He was responsible for to pyramids and several solar temples, the overseer of kings nusire and peribsen and a royal scribe. His mastaba was magnificent in all aspects and it contained a variety of artistic featured in different types. They display different activities of life and different kinds of offerings.
The statue:
It was found hidden in the serdab. His eyes were seen through the tiny holes cut in the wall of the offering room to enable him to see the offerings. It was excavated by Marriette in 1860. It is made out of painted limestone. The statue was fastened on the wall that they had to cut through the wall to remove it with the pillar that is behind the statue. He is represented with all signs of dignity with a youthful body. His left leg is stepping forward which is a traditional ancient Egyptian position. He is wearing a curly short hair wig covering the ears. He is wearing a starched white kilt and holding a cylindrical object in his hands. His eyes are not inlaid. There is no space between the arms and the chest to avoid damage. The statue is larger than life size to show greatness. At the base of the statue there are some hieroglyphic inscriptions.
