يكون من مادة الذهب في معدنه غالبا يبتدئ ليكون ذهبا فيقصر به البرد و اليبس ليكون

حد سواء يقال ان الزبرجد و الزمرد متماثلين و لا فرق بينهما الا في الالوان
القبرصي ثم المصري و قيل العكس و أردؤه الهندي الاحمر.واجود انواعه :

الزبرجد الوانه كثيرة لكن المشهور منه هو الاخضر المصري و الاصفر القبرصي

يقطع الدم و يقرح و يجلو الاثار و يسكن وجع الاذن محلولا في العسل
و يسكن
العين كحلا و يجلو البياض
و هو اربعة انواع كما ذكر أغلب العلماء في هذا المجال

عرف الزبرجد في مصر القديمة, في عصور ما قبل الأسرات في صناعة الخرز واستخدم الزبرجد الأصفر عند المصريين القدماء إذ عثر على جعران مصنوع من الزبرجد في مصر وهو يعود إلى عهد الاسرة الثامنة عشر.
وذكر أن كرسي النبي سليمان المخصص للجلوس بين الناس كان مرصعا بفصص مؤلفة من الزبرجد و اللؤلؤ و الياقوت .
