Productive Activities in K21 GAFRD Hatchery - Season 2011- 2012
September 30, 2012, Alexandria, Egypt.
Introduction
This Report covers the executed activities in the K21 MH from 15/10/2012 to 15/4/2012, including a significant amount of statistical data related to the production of several hatchery sections.
The GAFARD is supporting the marine aquaculture development according to technologies and productive process adequate both to national and Mediterranean context.
In this Context the marine hatchery K21 must play an important role as technical windows for the enterprises, both with the extension service and with commercial /demonstrative productive activities, focused on seed production.
MADE is organizing a “technical window” in K21 Agami GAFRD Hatchery aimed to consolidate the dialogue between the Egyptian involved Institutions and the private sector, to register technical demands and needs. The “Best Management Practise” approach is the key to help the farmers for improving the productive process and for increasing their income. The “Standard Operating Procedures” can constitute the detailed written instructions/indications for improving the productive performance, farm by farm, function by function.
One of the main project components foresees a new hatchery construction in the K21 site/location, and specific actions have been planned /executed: new hatchery preliminary lay out, technical specification, tender document for executive project/control/start up, launching of the tender for the executive project. The tender for the hatchery construction has been also planned and it will be launched after the approval of the executive project.
At the same time production of sea bass and sea bream fry/fingerlings has been planned and executed in the existing hatchery, to give new inputs to the GAFRD existing hatchery both for training purpose and for assisting the private sectors.
The project intends to determine growth and consolidation for Egyptian enterprises, having in mind the strategic approach of responsible and sustainable development. Public Institutions has the duty to give the guidelines to the private enterprises, taking into account both economic and ecological exigencies and needs.
GAFRD can play a remarkable role in marine aquaculture development ; Strengthening its joint position between science/technology and productive approaches. Support to the private farmers means to transfer the scientific and technology acquisitions to them; this is one of the main targets of the MADE project; the extension service is the instrument for achieving the results.
Now, the project staff completed the demanding training phase, in Egypt and Italy, for giving a strong contribution to the project sustainability, giving indications to the farmers in terms of technological, productive and marketing competences, according to sustainable and responsible approaches.
