Preface
This practical manual on "Fish Genetics and Breeding" was prepared as per the ICAR syllabus for UG students and will cover basics to modern concepts.
Various problems on concepts based on mendalian genetics such as Monohybrid cross, incompletely dominant genes, Lethal genes, Dihybrid cross are given with solution and answers.
Detailed protocol with explanation is also given for induction of Triploidy in fishes, Induction of Gynogenesis in fishes, Preparation of metaphase chromosomes from fish tissues, chromosome preparation from embryos, Cryopreservation of fish sperm and checking the fish sperm motility
Problems based on other important concepts in fish breeding such as Heterosis in fish breeding, sex determination, inbreeding and effective breeding number, selection and heritability and gene and genotype frequency are also given along with suitable solution and answers.
We hope this manual will be much of use to the students and fisheries professionals
