إزالة 2000

 محطة مهمة تأتي في الذكرى الخامسة والستين للقصف الأمريكي النووي لمدينتي هيروشيما وناجازاكي ، والذكرى الخامسة عشر لإطلاق "إزالة 2000" من قبل الشبكة العالمية لإزالة السلاح النووي، وتتزامن مع جهود إطلاق مسودة "معاهدة الأسلحة النووية" المقترحة التي تعمل على منع تطوير وإنتاج، واختبار، وانتشار، وتخزين، ونقل، واستخدام الأسلحة النووية أو التهديد بها، مع العمل على التخلص منها، كذلك تمنع إنتاج المواد القابلة للانشطار الممكن استخدامها في الأسلحة، وتتطلب تدمير الأجهزة الصانعة لها أو تعديلها بحيث تصبح غير قابلة للاستخدام في الأسلحة. وسوف تسلط الجهود حول العالم في الخامس من حزيران يونيه 2010 حيث تقام فعاليات محلية بمناسبة اليوم العالمي لإزالة الأسلحة النووية . رسالتنا بسيطة: لقد حان الوقت للحكومات لتبدأ المفاوضات لحظر جميع الأسلحة النووية.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has been citing our Model Nuclear Weapons Convention (NWC), initially produced by an Abolition 2000 working group of lawyers, scientists and policy makers, and urging governments to commence negotiations on a treaty to eliminate nuclear weapons. Parliamentarians from across the political spectrum are supporting the NWC proposal. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), a mere vision at the founding of our network fifteen years ago, as the solution to the inextricable link between nuclear weapons and nuclear power, is now established with142 member nations and still growing. The joint statement of U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev calling for a nuclear-free world inspired a tidal wave of hope and opened up the space for a badly needed renewal of advocacy and action to abolish nuclear weapons. Mayors for Peace, representing over 3,600 cities in 134 countries, is urging a process for negotiating a Nuclear Weapons Convention and eliminating nuclear weapons by 2020. Abolition 2000 is organizing to promote the NWC at the May 2010 NPT Review Conference, working with groups around the world to promote an internationally coordinated petition drive calling on the States Party to the NPT to commence negotiations on a treaty to eliminate nuclear weapons within a time-bound framework; a major international conference linking nuclear abolition, peace and security from April 30 to May 1 at the Riverside Church in New York City, site of Martin Luther King’s prophetic “Beyond Vietnam” speech in 1967; a rally and a march from Times Square to the United Nations, with a peace and justice festival in Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza on May 2
