Nutritional educational among diabetic patients in Benghazi city

ABSTRACT
The patient when given a proper guidance and education help regarding their diabetes health problem care, likely they will be able to make significant improvement in their overall health life-style which is going to be helpful for good glycemic control.
Health education program to diabetic patient will be more effective if they had good understanding approach to their level of knowledge, attitude and practice toward the problem of our patients. The current study was undertaken to look at the nutritional education , especially knowledge and practice about food consumption of diabetic patients attending (diabetic clinic) in Benghazi.
The result indicated that 39.4% of the patients were overweight and 43.5% were obese. Only 9.1% had a diet plan . 56.5% did not do exercise of any kind. The over all awareness about the risk of complications was satisfactory .
This study highlights the need for planned strategy for good health education awareness programs so as to help change the attitude and practice of our patients attending the diabetes clinic regarding value of food as part of the diabetes treatment plan.
