JAPAN - The veterinary authorities have reported a new case of Newcastle disease to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The report, dated 10 December, covers a single outbreak of Newcastle disease in the village of Onna on Okinawa, one of the most south-westerly islands.
The outbreak started on 2 December and was confirmed on 5 December. A flock of 11,800 broilers were affected. Of these, 364 birds died and the rest were destroyed. This was the first outbreak of Newcastle disease in Japan since March 2007.
