It has been reported that as many as 9 out of 10 chickens in Switzerland are infected with campylobacter bacteria.

The Swiss newspaper SonntagsZeitung reports that the Federal Veterinary Office has called a crisis meeting of food and health experts, as well as poultry producers, to address the issue in the poultry industry.

A spokesman apparently stated that the veterinary office was surprised by the results of the unpublished study, and was expecting only half of that number of chickens to be infected with campylobacter. It was also said that measures to combat the disease would be a focus at the upcoming meeting.
