This week was all about the letter N and Noodles. Ahead of time, I dyed different types of pasta so we could use it for crafts, sorting, and fine motor skill activities. To introduce the letter N to Connor, I had him glue coloured noodles to the letter N. He had a variety of colours to choose from but chose only green and yellow noodles.

The next activity was called ‘Noodle Names’. I wrote Connor’s name on some cardstock and he glued noodles on to the writing. This was great fine motor skill activity.

Connor enjoyed using the coloured noodles for gluing so much that he asked if he could make a noodle monster.

We also used the coloured noodles for transfer activities and for sensory exploration. Both Connor and Sarah discovered how crunchy uncooked noodles are when you step on them!

On our play dough day, I rolled small noodles into the play dough and both Connor and Sarah tried finding all the hidden noodles. This was much harder than I thought it would be. However, Connor and Sarah enjoyed the challenge and spent at least 20 minutes working on this.

One of the most enjoyable activities this week was noodle painting. Sarah really got into examining the noodles and just touching them and exploring their texture.

Connor practised writing the letter N using sandpaper letters and our homemade salt tray.

He also completed several worksheets. Connor’s Grandmother bought him some preschool type workbooks to see whether he liked them. He loved them and spent several hours during the week going through the pages.

For Science, I set up a tray which showed Connor the three states of matter. After giving him the presentation, I asked him to give me three examples of  solids and three examples of liquids. He had no trouble with these concepts. Gases is something we will explore further later on.

For Geography, I introduced Connor to primitive maps. Using the salt tray and a picture of a primitive map which I created on the computer, we talked about the images and what they represented. Connor was quick to tell me that the picture had a moon, a tree, a river, and three pyramids! He then practised drawing the map in the salt tray.

Sarah is starting to spend more and more time with stickers. She has finally mastered peeling them but is still getting the hang of sticking them on paper.

She also spent time sorting our Hide’N Squeak Eggs .

However, this week, she really enjoyed playing with blocks. Even Connor started playing with them again and he hasn’t touched them for quite some time. It was really lovely watching them play side by side building various structures.

I noticed this week, that Sarah is finally starting to really enjoy books. Her favourite books are the Miss Spider books and The Foot Book by Dr Seuss. It’s not uncommon for her to pick one of these books and take it to a family member, climb on to them and, request a reading.

A few final photos from Week 3 are of Connor playing with our Aquaplay Set , doing a puzzle with his Daddy, and the monster crafts we made this week. Connor found a really great craft book at the library and has selected several crafts he would like to make.
